Semi Independent

Sanctuary 16 is a 24-hour specialist Semi-independent provider for young people

16+ Children Looked After & Care Leavers

We work in partnership with local authorities, the probation service, and social services across the UK to provide a home for young people seeking to live independently. We aim to encourage, educate, and equip our young people with the tools to assist them with transitioning into independence.

Our approach is holistic, systematic, and grassroots-led. We believe the right environment, coupled with the right support and stimulation, can transform young people’s lives, helping them feel happier and more fulfilled.

What to Expect On the Start of Your Placement

Upon placement, the young person is allocated to a keyworker and co-key workers who will begin the induction & welcoming process. The key worker must demonstrate how to use the facility, including fire exits, assembly points, and kitchen amenities, introduce the young person to their new housemates and show them to their room. The Young Person will also be allocated their own space in the kitchen where they can keep their items. The young person will be given a new welcome pack, including a brochure, slippers and some personal care items. The young person will spend time with their key worker going over the rules of the house, complete a risk assessment form and be allowed to settle in.

During the Young Person’s stay, they must abide by the house rules. They are encouraged to use the company’s complaints procedure if they are dissatisfied with the accommodation or service or experiencing harassment or discrimination. We will always try mediation or conflict resolution where relationships are facing challenges. We emphasise independence, and young women are encouraged to resolve issues. In more difficult cases, they can refer to our in-house guide.

Our young people belong to our family, which means every year we take our young people away on an international trip for a week, showing them we value them, we trust them, and we want them to:

  • Enjoying and Achieving - enjoy their trip away with the people they know, achieve international independence, and demonstrate and regain trust.

  • Making a Positive Contribution - partake in activities abroad that demonstrate positive citizen duties and embrace local culture.

  • Achieving Economic Well-being: Learn to understand local currencies and exchange rates while learning the value of cultural economics and experience.
